Armagh Planetarium comes to Ardara

The Armagh planetarium visited the community centre on the 8th of September. We left the school at quarter past ten. First we went into a room and a man called Rok gave us a talk about space.

After that he showed us a space rock and we compered it with a rock from earth. The space rock was a lot heavier than the one from earth. We got to ask a lot of questions about space and astronaut.

When we finished we made our way to the dome. The lady opened it and told us a bit about it. When we got in we lay on the floor and looked up at the roof. It was really cool. The women played a movie about space. It was really entertaining. The movie was about aliens on a space ship that travelled through all the planets and they told us about all the different planets and what they are like. When we were done we thanked the people from the planetarium. We went back to the school and ate our lunch. It was a relay good day and we all learned a lot.

First Holy Communion

Good luck to our Second class boys as they receive their First Holy Communion this Sunday.  The boys have been brilliant at learning their prayers and songs and we wish them well on their big day.

Science is Bananas! 🍌

Our Science with Bananas

On the 17th of May 2024, the Senior Room (classes 3rd – 6th) did a science project on bananas. The goal was to extract the DNA from a banana slice.

We had a Zoom™ meeting with Eoin and Mary, our 2 guides through the experiment from SFI. They had a step by step process for us to follow, and even supplied us with the necessary ingredients (Saline, Ethanol etc.)

We all successfully extracted the DNA from our banana slices, which we had the permission to bring home with us, as well as the knowledge of knowing how to do the same experiment at home. It was a fun experiment for all of us, and we’d love to do it again someday.

Rosslongan Woods

Our trip to Ross Longan Woods

Check out this 0.8-km loop trail near Donegal, County Donegal.

Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 10 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking and walking, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash I know this because I saw many signs and also did you know that you can be fined €1900 for littering. And I forgot to say that we went to Miss Smiths house to get ice-cream and we saw Mo Miss Smith’s lawn mower then we went on the walk picked flowers got biscuits and went to school it was so fun.

Athletics

In February, 3rd to 6th Class pupils enjoyed a competitive day of indoor athletics in Dungloe.  Events included team sprint relays, high jump, long jump, ball push and speed bounce.

FAI 5-a-side

Senior room pupils competed in the FAI School 5 a side tournament in Inver.  A great day out for both teams with the highlight being the nerve-wrecking penalty shoot out to secure a 3rd place finish overall for the boys.
