Our Science with Bananas

On the 17th of May 2024, the Senior Room (classes 3rd – 6th) did a science project on bananas. The goal was to extract the DNA from a banana slice.

We had a Zoom™ meeting with Eoin and Mary, our 2 guides through the experiment from SFI. They had a step by step process for us to follow, and even supplied us with the necessary ingredients (Saline, Ethanol etc.)

We all successfully extracted the DNA from our banana slices, which we had the permission to bring home with us, as well as the knowledge of knowing how to do the same experiment at home. It was a fun experiment for all of us, and we’d love to do it again someday.
