Our History Walk
In school we were learning about old buildings of our parish. So on the 19th of September we went to the town to look at some old buildings. We picked 3 different buildings which were The Old Parish Hall, The Heritage Centre and The Church of the Holy Family.
We went to the Ardara Parish Hall First and we done a small survey on the hall. It asked questions about the roof type and what the building was made out of. Then my group and I took a few pictures of the Hall and when we also took some rubbings. But when we were on our way to the heritage centre we had to stop and pet Bridie the dog.
After we went to meet Bridie, we strolled our way down to the Heritage Centre, aka the Courthouse. We studied the main materials, such as granite and sandstone, and before going to the next building, a couple of us got rubbings of the wall.
On the way to the church we stopped at the shop and Mrs. Smith bought us ice-creams (they were delicious). We took a while to eat our ice-creams but when we finished them my group and I took some pictures of the church. And we finished our survey sheet and drew some pictures we looked at the Evie Hone Rose window. It has Christ in the middle with his arms raised above him. King David with a harp and at the bottom is mosses with the Ten Commandments it also shows Matthew as a man, mark as a lion, John as an eagle and Luke as an ox. We took some more photos and then the bus took us home. It was a great day, and we learnt lots.
